01 — The basics

Start here

Is this a scam?

No. We understand why people ask — historically, the language of "doubling money" has been misused by fraudulent schemes. DoublePenniesOnline LLC is structured to be the opposite of those patterns. We're a U.S.-registered research and development company under NAICS 541720, with a $10 fee that's refundable at any time (including after your $500 spending reward is credited), no recruiting, no downline, no investment of any kind, and rewards sponsored by the company rather than other participants. The full side-by-side comparison and our integrity safeguards live on our research integrity policy page.

What is DoublePenniesOnline LLC?

DPO is a U.S.-registered Research and Development company classified under NAICS 541720 — Research and Development in the Social Sciences and Humanities. We study how households spend over time. Through Phase 1, eligible participants can elect up to 10 orders for up to $5,000 in research spending rewards, delivered via a Restricted Spend Card & Wallet System. Phase 2 (coming) extends DPO's stewardship support across a lifetime.

Is this an investment?

No. No ownership stake, securities, or returns on investment are offered. No profit, income, or percentage-return promises are made. Participation is a research activity with guaranteed refund rights — not a financial commitment. Read more in our research integrity policy.

Will I get rich from this?

No. We make no income or wealth promises. Each spending reward is capped at $500 per order, with a maximum of 10 orders ($5,000 total) within Phase 1. The rewards are spending credits applied within the experiment — not cash income. The point is to support how households spend, not to grow personal wealth.

Is this a multi-level marketing (MLM) program?

No. There is no multi-level payout structure, no downline, no upline. Spending rewards come from DPO's research budget, not from other participants. No part of your spending reward depends on bringing in others.

Do I need to recruit anyone?

No, ever. Recruitment is not part of participation. Your spending reward depends solely on your own participation.

02 — How participation works

Activating, milestones, and the path to your spending reward

How do I activate my Spending Account?

Click any "Activate for $10" button on the site. You'll be taken to our secure Stripe checkout to complete the $10 research fee payment. Once paid, your Spending Account is activated and your participation in the experiment begins.

What is a Spending Account?

Your Spending Account is the research-managed account that holds your participation status. When your account reaches a milestone, DPO credits a $500 research spending reward to your Restricted Spend Card & Wallet, which you can then use at qualified everyday categories — utilities, groceries, transportation, education, and similar.

When do I receive my $500 spending reward?

Once your Spending Account reaches its first research milestone — DPO's exponential growth model determines this internally — your $500 spending reward is credited to your Restricted Spend Card & Wallet. Specific timing varies based on the model's progression. You'll be notified by email when your reward is available.

Can I participate more than once?

Yes. Eligible participants in Phase 1 can elect up to 10 separate orders. Each order is its own $10 refundable fee → $500 research spending reward cycle. Together, that's the opportunity to generate up to $5,000 in research spending rewards across the experiment. The 100% refund policy applies independently to each order.

What's the difference between Phase 1 and Phase 2?

Phase 1 is what's available now — the entry-level research participation. It's capped at 10 orders ($5,000 maximum in spending rewards). Phase 2 (coming) extends DPO's stewardship support across a lifetime — helping households maintain steady consumer spending for the long term, beyond Phase 1's caps. Details and timing for Phase 2 will be announced as it opens. For now, Phase 1 is the way in.

What's the optional $20/month subscription for?

After your first order, you may choose a $20/month subscription to keep your Spending Account active between orders. It's optional — you can cancel anytime. The subscription doesn't affect your refund rights for the orders you've placed.

03 — Spending & the Restricted Spend Card

Where you can use your spending reward — and where you can't

How does the Restricted Spend Card & Wallet System work?

When your spending reward is credited, it's loaded onto a Restricted Spend Card associated with your Spending Account. You use the card at qualified merchant categories — utilities, groceries, transportation, education, and similar everyday categories. The card uses standard merchant category codes (MCCs), the same system credit card networks use globally.

Where can I use my $500 spending reward?

At qualified everyday categories — utilities, groceries, transportation, education, household services, and similar. Most categories where households typically spend on essentials are supported. The full list of non-qualifying categories (where the card declines) is at /non-qualifying.

What categories are excluded?

Categories that don't align with stewardship of household stability — gambling, lottery, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, firearms and ammunition, adult services, cash advances, gift cards, cryptocurrency, and money transfer services. See the full non-qualifying list for the complete breakdown and the reasoning behind each grouping.

What if I try to use the card somewhere that doesn't qualify?

The card simply doesn't authorize the transaction. Your spending balance is preserved for qualified spending. You'll see a "decline" message at checkout, but your account isn't penalized — it's just the card's built-in safeguard doing its job.

Can I withdraw cash from the card?

No. Cash advances are excluded from qualified spending. The Restricted Spend Card & Wallet System is designed for spending at merchants, not for cash conversion.

Can I buy gift cards with it?

No. Gift cards are excluded — they could be redeemed for any restricted category, which would defeat the purpose of the card's safeguards.

What if a transaction declines unexpectedly — at a merchant I think should qualify?

Merchant coding isn't always perfect. A gas station that also sells groceries may be coded as a gas station rather than a grocery store, for example. If a transaction declines that you believe should have qualified, email support@doublepennies.online and we'll investigate. We work to resolve edge cases as they come up and update merchant coding interpretations when patterns emerge across participants.

04 — Money & refunds

Refunds, payments, and tax questions

How do I get my $10 refunded?

Email support@doublepennies.online and request a refund. We'll process it. The 100% refund policy applies at any time — including after your spending reward has been credited — and it applies independently to each of your Phase 1 orders.

Can I get a refund after my spending reward is credited?

Yes. The policy is structural: even after your $500 spending reward is credited to your Restricted Spend Card, your $10 entry fee remains refundable. No fine print, no penalty, no "you've already used it" exception.

How long does a refund take?

Typically 5–10 business days, depending on your bank or card issuer. Refunds are processed back to the original Stripe payment method.

Is the $10 fee tax-deductible?

No. The $10 is a research participation fee, not a charitable contribution. It's also refundable at any time, so it isn't a closed financial transaction. We don't provide tax advice — consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.

Will I receive a 1099 or other tax form?

Spending rewards delivered through the Restricted Spend Card aren't structured as taxable income — they're spending credits applied within the research experiment. We don't provide tax advice; consult your tax advisor about your specific situation.

What payment methods do you accept?

Stripe — all major credit and debit cards, plus other Stripe-supported payment methods. We don't accept cash, check, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer for the $10 research fee.

05 — Trust, safety & data

How DPO operates, what we share, what we protect

How does DPO generate the spending reward?

Through a structured exponential growth model that runs internally. The mechanics are protected as a trade secret to prevent duplication and misuse. What's transparent: your refund rights, your spending reward, and the research outcomes we publish.

Why don't you reveal the exact mechanism?

The internal model is a protected trade secret. Disclosure would invite duplication or fraudulent misuse by bad actors. What participants need is fully disclosed: your rights, your spending reward, and the research outcomes.

What data do you collect about my spending?

Category-level transaction data only. The Restricted Spend Card & Wallet System records when a purchase falls into a category (utilities, groceries, transportation, etc.) — but doesn't capture individual merchant details or itemized purchases. We don't see what you bought at the grocery store, just that you spent at one.

Is my personal information private?

Yes. Personal data is kept confidential and used only for research administration. We don't sell or share personal information. Public reporting uses aggregate, anonymized metrics. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

What safeguards are in place?

Five structural safeguards:

  • 100% refund anytime, even after your spending reward is credited.
  • The Restricted Spend Card & Wallet System excludes non-qualifying categories.
  • Plain-English written terms — no buried clauses.
  • Confidential data handling with category-only recording.
  • Documented cycles and milestones, with planned public Transparency Dashboard.

Why is DPO grounded in Catholic Social Teaching? Do I need to be Catholic?

No, you don't. DPO's operational and research design is anchored in the principles of stewardship and Catholic Social Teaching — the conviction that economic systems should serve human dignity, not the other way around. The framework describes how DPO operates, not who can join. All faiths and no faith are welcome to participate. Read more on the In God We Trust - Catholic Social Teaching page.

Where can I read your full integrity policy?

At /integrity. It covers what DPO is, what it isn't, the structural safeguards, a side-by-side comparison with typical scam patterns, and the trade-secret reasoning behind our research methodology.

06 — Contact & practical

Getting in touch, canceling, and edge cases

How do I contact DPO?

Email support@doublepennies.online for any questions, refund requests, edge cases, or media inquiries. We aim to respond within 1–2 business days.

How do I cancel my participation?

Email support@doublepennies.online with a refund request. There's no separate "cancellation" form — refunding your $10 effectively withdraws your participation in that order. If you have additional orders or a $20/month subscription, you can cancel each separately.

What if my Restricted Spend Card is lost or stolen?

Email support@doublepennies.online immediately. We'll deactivate the lost card and issue a replacement. Your spending balance is preserved during the replacement process.

What if I have a question that's not answered here?

Email support@doublepennies.online. We're happy to answer specific questions about your participation, the research model (what we can share), or general questions about DPO. For deeper transparency, see the research integrity policy.
